Building a mobile app is a big investment, and the choice of developer decides how it turns out. Use this checklist when you compare mobile app development companies in Sri Lanka.
1. Decide on the platform approach
- Cross-platform (Flutter): one codebase produces both the iOS and Android app. It usually costs less, launches sooner and is easier to maintain.
- Native (Swift and Kotlin): separate apps for each platform. It can suit apps that depend heavily on platform-specific features.
For most business apps, cross-platform is a sensible default.
2. Look for the full picture, not just screens
A working app also needs a backend, an admin panel, secure authentication, and often payments and notifications. Ask whether the quotation includes these.
3. Ask to see real work
Request live apps or demos, and ask what role the team played. Talk to a past client if you can.
4. Check the process
- Is there a design phase (UI/UX) before development?
- Will you see working demos regularly?
- How is testing done?
- Who handles App Store and Google Play submission?
5. Clarify ownership and support
- You should own the source code and the developer accounts.
- Ask what maintenance covers: OS updates, bug fixes and new features.
6. Warning signs
- A price with no scope behind it.
- No design or testing step.
- The developer keeps control of the code or store accounts.
- No plan for support after launch.
